MILLBURN/SHORT HILLS:
Located in Essex County, Millburn is comprised of a town center and adjoining residential sections, but it also encompasses the area to the north and west widely known as Short Hills. Millburn comprises the historic Wyoming district, and South Mountain and Millburn Center areas. Short Hills contains the sections of Knollwood, Glenwood, Brookhaven, Country Club, Merrywood, Deerfield-Crossroads, Mountaintop, White Oak Ridge, and Old Short Hills Estates.
Millburn's town center boasts a sizable downtown shopping district, augmented by the extensive upscale shopping available at the Mall at Short Hills.
Millburn has traditionally had one of the largest Jewish communities in Essex County, along with neighboring Livingston and Maplewood. Philip Roth's popular novel Goodbye, Columbus about a newly affluent Jewish family, was set in the Short Hills section of Millburn, and a key scene takes place at the Millburn High School track.
The township has also become very popular with young professionals moving out of Manhattan, thanks to train service to Penn Station in as little as 30 minutes as well a public school system that is widely regarded as one of the best in the nation.
Highlights of the area include the 16 acre Cora Hartshorn Arboretum and Bird Sanctuary, as well as the Paper Mill Playhouse, one of the nation's most outstanding nonprofit cultural venues.

LIVINGSTON TOWNSHIP:
Also located in Essex County and located about 20 miles from New York City, Livingston has evolved into a well balanced residential community. Abundant office space and a number of large commercial areas have further encouraged economic growth. Although largely a bedroom community, there are numerous stores and restaurants located in Livingston. They include chain stores such as Barnes & Noble, Borders, Old Navy, and restaurants such as The Original SoupMan, as well as department stores in the
recently renovated Livingston Mall, not only serves residents, but provides expansive regional shopping facilities to surrounding communities.
Attesting to the town's rich historic significance, the Thomas Force Homestead (circa 1749) is now a public museum.
Additionally, there are many local, independent stores. Construction on the new walkable town center and the housing complex next to it has been completed. Livingston has a cable television station (TV-34), which is maintained by Livingston High School Students as well as the LPBC (Livingston Public Broadcasting Committee).

MAPLEWOOD:
Maplewood was originally formed as South Orange Township, which was created on April 1, 1861, from portions of Clinton Township and what was then the Town of Orange. The name of the township was changed to Maplewood on November 7, 1922. There are approximately 226 streets covering 60 miles within Maplewood. One thoroughfare, Springfield Avenue, is a state highway (Route 124, from Irvington to Morristown), and four thoroughfares (Valley Street, Millburn Avenue, Irvington Avenue and Wyoming Avenue), are Essex County roads.
Maplewood prides itself on being a diverse and family-friendly community. In a number of surveys it is ranked among the most desirable places to live in the United States. The township has a downtown area alternatively known as "the village" or "Maplewood Center" with its own movie theater, several upscale and midscale restaurants, post office, train station, a small supermarket, independent café, two liquor stores, and a small bookstore. The structure of the village is largely unchanged since the 1950s.
Maplewood schools are part of the unified South Orange-Maplewood School District, together with the neighboring community of South Orange. The combined district features one public high school, Columbia High School, which serves 2,021 students.

SOUTH ORANGE VILLAGE:
South Orange is a village in Essex County that dates back to May 4, 1869, when it was formed within South Orange Township (Now Maplewood).The town is one of only a few in New Jersey to retain gas light street illumination (others include Riverton, Palmyra, Glen Ridge and some parts of Orange). The gaslight has long been the symbol of South Orange (together with the distinctive Village Hall); a local tavern is named for them. Architecture is extremely varied. Most of the town is single-family wood framed houses, but there are a few apartment buildings from various eras as well as townhouse-style condominiums of mostly more recent vintage. Houses cover a range that includes every common style of the Mid-Atlantic United States since the late nineteenth century, and in sizes that range from brick English Cottages to giant Mansard-roofed mansions. Tudor, Victorian, Colonial, Ranch, Modern, and many others are all to be found. Most municipal government structures date from the 1920s, with a few being of more modern construction.
Many residents commute to New York City, but others work locally or in other parts of New Jersey. South Orange has a central business district with restaurants, banks, and other retail and professional services. There are a few small office buildings, but no large-scale enterprise other than Seton Hall University.
The township shares a common school system, the South Orange-Maplewood School District, with the adjacent town of Maplewood. The district has a single high school, Columbia High School, located in Maplewood (but nearly on the town border), and one middle school and several elementary schools in each town.
